Welcome to the literature section. We're not sure exactly where this is going yet but if possible we'd like to use the site to publish new environmental writing. If you're a writer with something to say about the environment or green issues then please get in touch and let us know. We can publish all or part of your work with full copyright acknowledgement, and/or make it available on a pay per download basis. In the meantime, we offer you online versions of Steep Trails and Yosemite, both by John Muir. Muir was a Scot who spent his life (1838-1914) exploring, writing about and fighting for the great wilderness areas of America. He is frequently described as the founding father of the modern environmentalist movement. His descriptions here of his travels through the American West in the latter part of the nineteenth century of are some of the best nature writing you will find anywhere, and show a deep spiritual connection with the land he travelled. The other person regarded by many as one of the two 'fathers of modern environmentalism' is Henry Thoreau. We have included his treatise on walking for your perusal and delectation. The bottom green link on the left will take you to reviews of some great environmental fiction, both utopian and dystopian, while the Amazon link takes you to a selection of environmental titles from the UK's biggest online bookshop. |
